Writing Curriculum's
Loops and Other Groups
A Kinesthetic Writing System
Written by Mary D. Benbow, M.S., OTR/L
Help your student or child from from second grade through high school learn from one of the most renowned writing systems in use today.
Letters are taught in groups that share common movement patterns. For example, a, d, g, q, and c can be visualized on a clock face, and are called "Clock Climbers".
Easy-to-remember motor and memory cues help the pupil visualize and verbalize while they experience the "feel" of the letter.
Groups included in the lower-case letters:
Clock Climbers - a, d, g, q, c
Kite Strings - i, u, w, t, j, p, r, s, o
Loop Group - h, k, b, f, l, e
Hills and Valleys - n, m, v, y, x, z
Groups included in the capital letters:
Slim 7 Group - P, R, B, H, K
Umbrella Tops and Eggs - C, E, A, O, Q
High Hills and Deep Valleys - N, M, U, V, Y
There are two levels of reproducible practice sheets allowing students to focus on upper and lower case letters based upon their level of expertise.
The system includes an 84-page teachers manual, 61 level one sheets, 32 level two sheets, 30 sheets of alphabet models and letter group charts.

If your child has writing problems try purchasing a manuscript alphabet card for their desk or to hang on the wall near their desk.
Sometimes seeing the letters in cursive or print will help them remember how to form their letters.
If they push to hard when writing to putting a pile of newspaper under their writing paper or an art foamy sheet will work also.
Mechanical pencils are the perfect thing to use also if they push to hard the pencils will break this habit.
Graphic Organizers
Does your child need help organizing their thoughts before doing a writing project or report?

If you or your child would like to become a writer and need some tips and helps please check out the information below.
Check with your local library for the following books:
Writers Digest for Children
Writers Digest for Adults
There are lots of books at the library that you can borrow ask them to help you choose them.
Look for writers conferences at local libraries when the writers visit you can ask them questions about who to contact and so forth.
Check out books in your area of expertise for example - mystery books.
Look at the publishers information on the covers of these books and look the publisher up on the internet.
The publisher will probably have a link for manuscripts being submitted. If an adult or child are writing short stories Highlights Magazine buys these more often then publishers. Also high & low books are popular right now.
Adult material on children's level which is for adults trying to learn to read.
Publishers are look for these kind of stories but as you look up each publisher they will list what they are looking for.
You might want to join the writers guild.
I believe it does cost.
Here's the website:

I have a relative that is a writer and they say you have to send your manuscript out to alot of publishers sometimes before one will even write you back.
Before you send a manuscript send one to yourself and don't open it at all.
It's for your protection if someone tries to steal you work.
You keep the unopened manuscript in a safe place in case someone says they were the authors.
The post mark on the the envelope has the date on it.
Not even the judge can open the package without your permission.
This is a cheap way of protecting your work.
