NHEG Student Achievements

We wish to recognize the many students who walked through our doors on our NHEG Student Achievements page.  We are proud of what they have done.

Tanya Collins

2008 – 2009

  • Science Olympiad team member who competed at the district level.
  • After-school Spanish Club member.
  • Participated in Teens: On the Road to Financial Success, a 4-H Club financial responsibility project.
  • Venturing Crew 19 member.

2010 – 2011

Secretary, New Heights Student Advisory Group.

2011 – 2012

Tanya Collins made honor roll two of three nine weeks. She served on the student council, two yearbook committees, was in the play, “Dark and Stormy Night,” and in the musical, “Grease.” She took classes to become a first responder for Oakwood EMS. She runs the media for her church for youth.

Zachary Clark

2010 – 2011

  • National Society of High School Scholars member.
  • Discus Award winner in Academics, Community Service, and Other Achievements.
  • Certified scuba diver & Defiance County CERT member.
  • President, New Heights Student Advisory Group.
  • Underwater archaeology certification.
  • Diver Plus certification.

Josh Zartman

Mac Clark


Graduated from John Casablanca’s Modeling School in Toledo, Ohio.


Earned a blue belt in Jujitsu.

Randell Collins

2008 – 2009

  • Earned four-plus merit badges as a boy scout with Troop 19
  • Earned hiking badge, which required five 10-mile hikes and one 20-mile hike
  • Built bridges on the Buckeye Trail
  • Played football for the Rams
  • Participated in 4-H gun safety project
  • Helped out at his dad’s fire station

Correena Spangler

2008 – 2009

7th – 8th grade winner, Underground Railroad Essay Contest, sponsored by Friends of the Lathrop House and Metroparks.

2010 – 2011

  • Discus Award winner.
  • National Society of High School Scholars member.


Correena Spangler participated in the Ohio, West Virginia, Hi-Y Model UN 2012 as a representative for the United States of America.


Recipient of the Johnson Distinguished Service Award, a Servant Statue replica and the USF Representative Woman Award.

Cuyler Spangler


Cuyler won 1st place in Weapons for 12-14 yr olds in red/blue belt. He used the tonfas as his weapon of choice. This was @ Pierceton on Oct. 20, 2013. Congrats to Cuyler! We are proud of you!


Cuyler won 3rd in weapons & kata. he had no one to spar in his age group to do the kumite w/ the big boys. He won 3rd place in adult blackbelt!!!! So proud of these two kids!
